Check price on AmazonHow we picked
We ranked these dual hose portable air conditioners using published specifications only. No unit was handled or measured. For portables, we compared the seasonally adjusted cooling capacity where the maker lists one, then noise, wattage, controls, and extra modes. Units without a stated SACC were ranked below those with one and were never compared by their BTU figure against another portable's SACC.
We chose picks that fit the dual hose search, covering quiet operation, smart control, heating, and larger rooms. The ranking is based on maker listed figures from product pages and manuals.
How a dual hose portable AC works
A dual hose portable air conditioner has a second hose for intake air next to the exhaust hose, as on Whynter's NEX dual hose models. Both hoses must connect to the window kit. Keep them as short and straight as possible, and check that the intake and exhaust are not blocked.
SACC vs BTU for portables
For portable air conditioners, the seasonally adjusted cooling capacity is the figure to compare. Makers work it out with the DOE rating method, and it is often lower than the older BTU figure on the box. See What BTU and SACC Ratings Mean.
When a maker does not list a SACC figure, we say so and do not compare that unit's BTU figure with another portable's SACC.
Noise and where you will use it
Noise figures in decibels give a rough idea of how loud a unit runs. A lower figure is better for bedrooms. The quietest picks here state 39 to 42 db, while louder models reach 53 to 55 db.
Whynter notes that noise reflecting off hard floors or walls can make a unit sound louder than it is.
Controls and smart features
Many dual hose units offer app, remote, touch, or voice control. App control lets you schedule and adjust from anywhere, while voice control works with smart speakers. See Wi-Fi Room ACs and Their Apps.
If you want heating as well, look for a model that states a heating function.
Sizing and installation
Match the unit to your room size using the maker's square footage figure or the SACC. A unit that is too large will cool before removing enough humidity, leaving the room damp. A unit that is too small will struggle.
Dual hose units need a window kit with two openings. Check that your window can fit the included slider, and seal gaps with the foam strips. See the portable AC buying checklist.

Questions people ask
What is the difference between single hose and dual hose?
A single hose unit sends its hot exhaust air outside through one hose. A dual hose unit adds a second hose for intake air; Whynter, for example, says to remove the intake hose on its dual hose models when the outside humidity is high or it is raining.
What does SACC mean?
SACC stands for seasonally adjusted cooling capacity. It is the U.S. Department of Energy figure for portable air conditioners, worked out with the DOE rating method. Compare portables on SACC, not the older BTU figure.
Which dual hose unit is quietest?
Among the picks, the Hisense API0825UW1D 8,000 BTU lists a 39 db noise figure, and the Dreo 740S 14,000 BTU and Hisense HAP0825TWD 8,000 BTU both list 42 db. Lower decibel figures are better for bedrooms.
Can a dual hose portable AC heat a room?
Some models include a heating function. The Hisense API0825UW1D 8,000 BTU, SereneLife SLINV12CHPD 12,000 BTU, SereneLife Inverter 16,000 BTU, and Friedrich Inverter Dual Hose 14,000 BTU all state heating. Check the maker's page for the exact mode.
Do dual hose units need draining?
Midea says its portables evaporate the collected water and send it out the exhaust hose as vapor. In humid conditions, you may need to drain the internal tank. Some models have a self draining feature or a continuous drain option. See How a Portable AC Handles Water.
How is a dual hose portable AC installed?
Connect both hoses to the window kit, place the unit near the window, and seal the gaps with the included foam. Keep the hoses as short and straight as possible. The owner's manual gives the exact steps for your model.
